Frozen chicken nuggets are an easy way to add protein to any meal, but you may want to check the packaging before adding this freezer staple to your dinner tonight. Perdue just recalled 167,171 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and tenders due to reports that customers found metal wire embedded in the product.

The announcement was made on Friday, August 16, by Perdue and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Per the notice, the recall includes three ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender items.

  • 22-ounce vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing “PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS Breaded CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS”
  • 29-ounce vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing “PERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS”
  • 22-ounce vacuum-sealed packages containing “BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets”

All of the products included in the recall have a Best If Used By date of “03 23 25” and establishment number “P-33944,” which can both be found on the back of the packaging. These products were shipped to retail locations nationwide and sold online directly to consumers.

The issue with these products was discovered after Perdue received consumer complaints about metal wire embedded in the product. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions or injury to date, but FSIS is encouraging consumers who have purchased these products to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Perdue’s customer care number at 1-866-866-3703.
