But before reaching into your freezer for a treat, check the label on your ice cream container. Totally Cool, Inc. is recalling multiple brands of ice cream products due to possible listeria contamination, according to an announcement from the Food & Drug Administration. The Maryland-based company has recalled more than 65 products across several popular ice cream brands, including Friendly’s, Hershey’s Ice Cream, Jeni's, ChipWich, and more. The items included in the recall were sold nationwide at Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, and other stores, as well as online. More Than 100 Brands of Canned Coffee Recalled Due to Risk of Botulism The recall includes includes ice cream sandwiches, pints, sorbet, and other frozen desserts. To verify if you own one of the impacted products, compare the date and plant information on the product. Example photographs of the products are available on the FDA's website. While no illnesses have been reported to date, the FDA is urging consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products to return them for a full refund. Additionally, Totally Cool, Inc. has ceased the production and distribution of the affected products. Per the FDA, when people consume food contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, they can develop a disease called listeriosis. Symptoms typically begins within a few hours or up to three days after consuming contaminated food. Symptoms may last for up to several weeks and include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
