Boar's Head Provisions Co., Inc., of Jarratt, Virginia, is recalling all liverwurst products due to possible contamination with listeria, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announcement. The company is also recalling all deli meat products produced on the same line and the same day as the liverwurst due to concerns that these products have also been contaminated. Those meats include beef salami, bologna, Virginia ham, and numerous other products. The recall comes in the midst of a 13-state listeria outbreak tied to deli meat sliced at counters. The recalled products were distributed nationwide with the establishment number “EST. 12612” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product labels. The liverwurst was sold in 3.5-pound loaves in plastic casing and various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head Strassburger Brand Liverwurst MADE IN VIRGINIA.” Full List of Recalled Products For a full list of the recalled products distributed by Boars Head, visit the USDA website page detailing the recall. Consuming products contaminated with listeria could result in listeriosis, an infection that can cause serious illness in older adults, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant people, and newborns. Symptoms of listeriosis usually start within two weeks after eating contaminated food but may start as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks after, per the CDC. Anyone who has purchased these products is urged not to consume them and dispose of them immediately or return them to their place of purchase. Customers are also urged to thoroughly clean refrigerators to prevent the bacteria from spreading.
