More and more homeowners are opting to fill their interiors with dark colors that evoke a sense of warmth and drama—a trend that doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. After analyzing top-performing colors and paint trends, Stainmaster has announced Truffle—a versatile and restorative dark hue—as its 2025 Color of the Year.

Truffle has a rich, deep tone that's perfect for dramatic home design styles. The luxurious shade has an old-world elegance while simultaneously bringing a sense of modernity to interiors. Use it on all four walls for a dramatic, contemporary feel or to accent a light, neutral color palette.

"This foundation color complements a wide range of styles, from modern minimalism to rustic chic, and layers beautifully with a broad range of colors from soft neutrals hues to deep, bold palettes," Monica Reese, director of trend and style at Lowe's, told MarthaStewart.com. "You can transform your space with this trend-setting color, whether you choose to drench an entire room in its warmth or use it to accentuate and add depth to specific areas."

The chocolatey paint color leans into trends that are being seen widely in interior spaces already, such as color drenching. "We’ll see a continuation of color drenching in 2025, with consumers covering their entire rooms; walls, ceiling, and trim to create a serene, cocooned space that is equal parts sophisticated and inviting," says Reese. "For those trendsetters that want to embrace luxury designs, rich tones like Truffle emerge as the grounding color of choice."

Striking the perfect balance between sophistication and comfort, Truffle proves that dark interiors are here to stay in 2025. The color, which is available exclusively at Lowe's, pairs perfectly with true neutrals, like white and cream, as well as other earth-inspired shades, such as forest green.
