Cut out the shapes you like and carve them into your gourd for a Jack-o'-lantern that is truly one-of-a-kind. 41 Pumpkin Stencils and Designs That Will Inspire Your Halloween Display What You'll Need Materials Pumpkin templates Keyhole saw Scraper Miniature saw Awl, needle tool, or T-pin Petroleum jelly Instructions Hollow out your pumpkin: Using a keyhole saw, cut a hole in the side or bottom of your pumpkin. Remove the flesh, pulp, and seeds with a plastic scraper or fleshing tool. Pick a design: Print desired templates on 8½-by-11-inch paper and cut out around designs. Tape each shape on pumpkin in desired location. Transfer the template: Take an awl, needle tool, or T-pin and use it to trace the design of your template onto your pumpkin by poking holes along it. Start carving: Remove template, and carve along the pattern. Use a miniature saw to carve details into the surface of the pumpkin.
