Fall is right around the corner, and if you're looking forward to all of the coziness that ensues during this season, you're not alone. According to a recent report from Pinterest, creating a comfortable, tranquil environment will be the biggest trend in home design this fall.

These findings come as Pinterest shares its 2024 fall trend report, which sheds light on what will be big in all things home décor, fashion, food, crafting, and more during the upcoming season. Overall, the platform has already seen increased searches for fall aesthetics, activities, and inspiration.

In home design, it's clear there is one overarching trend you should expect to see this fall—spaces curated with comfort top of mind. According to the report, Pinterest users are demonstrating an increased interest in creating a peaceful oasis right at home.

These insights come as search terms like cozy sunroom (+930 percent), cozy lighting (+200 percent), and cozy reading room (+140 percent) have increased dramatically amongst Pinterest users.

Trending paint colors are another cue that comfort is in this fall. Per Pinterest, searches for serene color palettes have increased by 100 percent, with searches for seafoam, sage, blue, dark green, lavender, and moody purple paint colors all at their peak.

Some of 2024's biggest trends so far have already hinted at a growing interest in creating spaces that feel lived-in. For example, rest corners—an area of the home reserved specifically for rest and rejuvenation—took off earlier this year as a way to encourage people to enjoy periods of tranquility. Rom-com décor—another major trend—has a similar ethos, drawing inspiration from the cozy settings seen in popular romantic comedies (á la Nancy Meyers).

While comfort can never really go out of style, Pinterest's 2024 fall trends report is further proof that this practical aesthetic is becoming a growing priority in home design.
